Anna's Summer Solstice Quilt

I first saw this quilt when Anna brought it into the shop to show everyone. She'd purchased the pattern and fabrics at Karen's and wanted to show her how beautifully it had turned out.  I've done some quilting for Anna in the past, but I never assume that a customer will continue to use me. Imagine my pleasure when I told Anna she'd have to bring it in after it was quilted and her response was, "That shouldn't be hard since you'll be quilting it."  Made me a happy camper (quilter?).

Crazy Horse Quilting

I knew that with these fabrics, there were many places that the quilting really would only add texture, but then there were those light colored rectangles that were calling to me.

Below are some more pics of the quilting--I did lines and ribbon candy in those great rectangles, CC's in the center and outer diamonds, quilting to make the Celtic patterns have more texture and a few other fun designs.  Have a look:

First the center. I really debated with myself about doing more in that center star, but as you can see, I chickened out.

Then the linework. I wanted to make this quilting stand out without taking away from the beauty of the quilt. I love how it turned out.

The corners had the busy Celtic knot pattern, so it seemed that continues curves following the design just worked.

And what post is complete without at least a couple shots of the back of the quilt??

This looks a little odd, but it was the quilting behind the Celtic designs...it worked--on the front.

The back of the center star:

And a few shots of the linework and continue curves.

And finally, because he insisted, a shot of Dash who refused to move until his photo was taken! Silly dog!!

Lyn's Storytime Quilt

Lyn sent this quilt up from California in the hopes of having it back for the quilt show in April. She had it back, but alas, as with everything these days, the show was cancelled.  Its a pretty little quilt that she picked up on one of her many travels.

Because this quilt was so light and airy (for lack of better terms to describe it), I wanted to keep the quilting similar.  The first thing to decide, was what to put in that middle 12-patch. I opted for a CC-type flower with simple echoing to make it stand out.

Moving out, I decided on a cute flower motif that I first saw in a Deloa Jones quilting design book. Deloa has some great ideas and is a wonderful teacher, should we ever get to take classes again. I surrounded the design with pebbles next to the center 12-patch.

And then used it again, without pebbles in the borders and the eight-patch sections, throwing in a little dot-to-dot quilting ala Angela Walters.

In the four-patch blocks, I repeated the 12-patch design for continuity.

Finally, in the background, a simple swirl design filled in the open spaces to keep the design light.

And a couple shots of the back...

Charlene's Ohio Star Quilt

I always love Charlene's quilts. They're always pieced well and she lets me play with my quilting designs. Since this one is so traditional, I decided to shake things up a bit and mix a little "modern" into the quilting.

I did some piano keys in the border, then went back and filled some in with ribbon candy for a bit more interest. The sashings are ribbon candy, with the blocks having a blend of stippling, cc's, and feathers.

When I got to the corners, I opted for a whole bunch of cc's, I always like this look.

Charlene almost always gives me plain backs...I love how they turn out!

Leslie's Back to Nature BOM

Isn't this quilt beautiful. There were so many areas to play and designs to play with--it was a super fun one to quilt! (Sorry about the weird angle of the pic. It was so big, I had to hang it in my living room to get a shot of the whole thing--and it still touched the floor!)

Let's begin with the center...I really wanted to make it pop, so this is what I came up with: Feathers, Hooked swirls, SID, Linework...you name it, its pretty much there.

Below are closeups of a few of the other blocks: (I may have gotten a tad carried away! *wink*)

Here's a shot of the border; I did a feather meander.

And a few (hundred) pics of the back. Leslie almost always sends along backs where the quilting will show. I love that--its like opening a present when I unload the quilt and see the back.

Cute Bicycle Quilt

Theresa's daughter made this quilt and wanted to enter it in the fair. I first "met" Theresa when a box showed up last year with two quilts in it along with a note asking me to quilt them. That's the extent of our contact. Theresa e-mailed wondering if I would do this one for here daughter--how could I refuse??

The quilt was only 30 x 36, but it was so darn cute and her daughter did a great job with the applique. It was a fun one to play with...look at all that negative space!! Lots of swirls and pebbles in the background.

With the basket, I quilted only in the light colored "weaving," to add some dimension. It was pretty cool in person.

I did some curved lines behind the tires...tried for a feeling of movement. Not sure I pulled that off though.

And here's a couple of the back...

Out of all the pics, this one is my fave. Theresa's daughter holding up her first, completed quilt. She did a great job!
