Leslie's Quilts, Part 2

This is the second quilt, made with the same fabric line. This is going to be used as a tablecloth for her trailer, if I'm remembering right.

This was more challenging to quilt...not a lot of open space. Rather than trying to follow the design on these blocks, I opted for some linework--both curved and straight.

This is the center panel with curved lines meeting in the middle.

And a shot of the back.  I always love how the quilting looks on plain backs...especially black ones!

More posts coming; however, I have a new computer now and its a bit challenging for my old brain!

Leslie's Beautiful Southwest Fabric Projects (Part 1)

I fell in love with these quilts while working on them. The fabrics are just so beautiful and Leslie did such a good job piecing them.

The first she called "Southwest Pantry" (I think. I'm terrible at remembering names!!) Lots of pics on this post, so you might want to grab a cup of coffee!!

First, a pic of the whole thing: front and back.

Don't you just love the back of this quilt???  Yes, I did QITD, but I just couldn't resist.  Give me a plain backing and I can't help myself.  Now comes the part where you'll need that coffee. There's a little bit of everything in this quilt: linework, feathers, crosshatch, cc's--you'll get my point as you view the pics.

And now for a few (or more) shots of the back!

Tuscany!

Nope...I didn't get to go on vacation. But I did get to work on Ginny's quilt and she did go on vacation, took this picture, and made it into this beautiful quilt.

Ginny wanted the texture to look like the blocks the buildings were made from, so I did a geometric
meander. I also used mono-filament thread. Something I rarely do; however, with this quilt, it was a necessity. I would have been changing thread color every inch!!

The pics below show the texture as they look on the quilt, itself. You can see it, but its not obvious, right?

Then I took these pics so you could really see the quilting. This was a fun quilt to work on. I love quilts with houses or any type of building!

Lindsey's Mariner's Compass

Many of you know that every year, I go to the Empty Spools Seminars at Asilomar. Its a beautiful place and I really love it. In 2017, I was able to take Robin Long's Mariner's Compass class.  Robin is an excellent teacher with a strip-piecing method of creating the Mariner's Compass block. All the ladies in the class had such a great time together, that we even have a private FB page for sharing our MC quilts now.

One of the students was Lindsey who came all the way from Chicago. When she finished her quilt, she offered to let me quilt it. I jumped at the chance--who wouldn't??? She did tell me that it wasn't going to be a wall hanging, but also gave me the freedom to play.

I filled the quilt with pebbles, swirls, feathers, line work and CC's--along with SID on all the seams. Overkill for a quilt that wasn't going to be put on display, but I couldn't resist.

The next three pics so the background, blending swirls, pebbles, feathers and line work.

This is a closeup of the center. The fabric was busy here, so I just did some basic CC's and loops.

And a couple shots of the back.  A bit hard to see the quilting, but I had to include them.

 

Working on this quilt made me want to finish mine and get it quilted.  Some day.....

Chris' Tropical Quilt

During Chris' recent trip to Hawaii, she purchased this fabric and made this beautiful quilt. She asked that I quilt plumeria in the border. As most of you know, my quilting is all freehand. What you probably don't know (and probably don't care) is that I'm not a gardener so I had no idea what a plumeria even looked like.  Thank goodness for the internet!!!

I had some fun with this quilt. Not only did I do the plumeria in the border...

I also did some in each of the purple blocks. Then in the surrounding purple blocks, I threw in a little bamboo for fun!

In the main body of the quilt (the green blocks), I did a leaf meander to finish it off.

And last, but not least, a shot of the back showing the plumeria.

A Giant Dahlia...Finally!

I have been wanting to quilt one of these forever!!!  I know, I could make one, but then it would go into the stack of 30+ quilts of mine waiting for quilting. Much better and faster to do one for a customer. Unfortunately, I didn't get to play anywhere near a much as I wanted, but I still loved how it turned out.

Mabel's budget didn't allow for more than an allover, but I just couldn't do it. With her permission, I played a bit and didn't charge her. It was our first time working together. I was so glad she trusted me to play! Even hanging from the ceiling, this quilt touched the floor!

Its hard to see, so more close-ups coming, but I used a soft purple thread on the entire quilt--even in the white bits! I did lots of CC and playing. Perhaps if you click on these pics to blow them up, more of the quilting will show.

Quincy Crazy Quilters Opportunity Quilt 2019

The Quincy Guild went wild this year with their Opportunity Quilt.  Its bright and beautiful!!

I love the bright colors against the black and white. I bet there will be a lot of men buying tickets for this one!

I did an allover with matching thread in each of the colored blocks and a wishbone design in the black/white areas with black/white variegated thread. Nothing much shows but the texture, which is fine with me.

The quilting doesn't show much on the back either, but isn't this the best backing for this top??? Don't look too long...its mesmerizing!!
