2022 Sun Bonnet Sue Raffle Quilt

 Wow...or should I say "whew"! This quilt was a challenge for me, and I loved every minute of it. Well, maybe not the minutes when I was panicking about what to put in the border, but otherwise, it was super fun! This is my second Lori Holt quilt and I have to say, I love her patterns! I especially love when they're not made with 30s fabrics...but that's just me!

The border, as you can see from the pic above, was 8" of a tone-on-tone white. All that white space in a border has so much potential and such a big "what do I do now?" bit, that it took me awhile to come up with a design. And then, I did it in pieces.  The final product looked like this:

There was a lot of marking, measuring and ruler work, but I like how it turned out. The decision to do the echo border around the design, was the best decision yet. And the sashing design echoing the border--well, it almost makes me look like I know what I'm doing!!! <grin>

Charlene's Ohio Star Quilt

I always love Charlene's quilts. They're always pieced well and she lets me play with my quilting designs. Since this one is so traditional, I decided to shake things up a bit and mix a little "modern" into the quilting.

I did some piano keys in the border, then went back and filled some in with ribbon candy for a bit more interest. The sashings are ribbon candy, with the blocks having a blend of stippling, cc's, and feathers.

When I got to the corners, I opted for a whole bunch of cc's, I always like this look.

Charlene almost always gives me plain backs...I love how they turn out!

Hilde's Beautiful Friendship Stars

Hilde made this beautiful Friendship Star quilt for, well, her friend! If I'm remembering correctly, her friend's car was broken into while they were on vacation and a quilt similar to this was stolen. She was heartbroken, so Hilde made her a new one.

I loved the setting of this quilt and wanted to try to make the stars pop a bit. I opted to quilt the background tightly, a geometric design in the star centers and to leave the points unquilted. A simple wishbone design in the border completed the look.
