Penny's Stained Glass

This Stained Glass quilt of Penny's took some thinking on my part. Penny had no idea what she wanted on this one and rather than opt for a simple allover, I took it a bit farther and quilted different designs in each "pane" of glass, keeping the same design in each block of the same color. It seemed to work and only took about a million thread changes!

Below are some shots of the top showing the individual designs. The front turned out nice, with a lot of texture. The designs were nothing special, but they really helped define the individual areas.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got this one off the frame. I love it when the quilting looks so fun on the back.

Another Shop Sample for Karen

Isn't this a cute one? Karen (Karen's Quilt Shop) put it together with just a single piece of fabric. If I remember correctly, it wasn't a even a panel. She was just playing.

I had fun with this one, doing a wonky crosshatch between the critters.

The fabric isn't nearly as yellow as the pic makes it out to be.  The critters are a lovely blue on a white background. This one shows the critters a little better--aren't they cute?

Karen put Minkee on the back. I love how Minkee looks when its quilted!

The backing was a lovely, soft blue to go with the top. I really need a new camera!

Quincy Crazy Quilters' Raffle Quilt

I feel so fortunate that the Quincy Crazy Quilters continue to trust me with their raffle quilts. This is the one for 2019 that will be won in September 2020. Hopefully, things will be more normal by then and they'll be able to draw the winning ticket at a meeting. *Fingers crossed*

This year's quilt is a wild one! Look at all those bright colors.  They seem to do fun, bright, and wild one year and then traditional the next (I've already gotten a sneap peak at the 2020 quilt).

Because this quilt had so much color, I did a simple design in the blocks using a matching thread color. These designs were repeated in the blocks with the wishbone design in the solid areas between.

Penny's Log Cabin

This quilt came from another of my regular customers, Penny. She always seems to send me fun projects to work on. When I first started quilting, I really wanted to make a log cabin quilt. Its been over ten years and I still haven't done it; however, I do still have the special ruler I bought (complete with the tags), in case it ever happens!! I think the fabrics Penny chose were perfect for a log cabin; super traditional.

I tried to play a bit in the quilting. I'm not sure how much will show up here, but I did lines in the red bits and other fun designs in the cream.

With any luck (and a huge dose of perseverance), I will finish blogging all of my 2019 quilts today. Then I'll only be behind four months worth of quilts. Not bad for me!

New Year's Day 2020 Mystery Quilting Project

I have been participating in this Mystery Quilting project with Longarm University and Cindy Roth for about eight years now. In those eight years, I've totally misread the directions (the first year) and am too embarrassed to tell you what I did. Suffice it to say, that mistake has never been made again and I didn't finish the project. The only other year that I didn't participate was 2019--the project included applique. In my dictionary, applique is a four letter word!!

So...onto the basics and then the pics. Each year, Cindy posts a pattern with instruction. The idea is to have the top completed and loaded so that on New Year's Day when the instruction starts coming, you're ready to go. I had mine loaded and ready, but I sure didn't start at 8 a.m. with the first post! I girl has to eat!!!

So this is the completed top:

Although it looks yellow, the fabric is a brilliant white and the black is polka-dot Grunge (I'm in love with the entire Grunge line). One of the really nice things about this project is that Cindy creates a FB page and is there to answer questions. When I realized that we wouldn't be quilting this block by block, allowing me to match thread/fabric color, I was stumped. I generally like my quilting to show up as texture and not be the main event. Cindy suggested variegated green and I went with it.

 A bit pic heavy, but the back of this quilt is just FUN!!! And, again, its truly white fabric...I think I need a new camera!!
