Cabin Fever Quilters 2020 Raffle Quilt

This is the raffle quilt for the Cabin Fever Quilters.  I love these bright colors!

With all the stay at home orders, the guild members haven't been able to sell many tickets and I don't think the 2021 quilt has even been started. This may be it--unless things change.  In the meantime, though, I thought I'd share. Let me know if you'd like a ticket.  They are the usual $1 each.

I decided to do some simple quilting on this one--with these bright colors, nothing was really going to show. The inside of each "block" is quilted in a heatwave design with matching thread; the black has lines going in different directions to set them off.

I've added a shot of the back, although its so busy, the quilting doesn't really show up much.

Thanks for looking!!!

Cabin Fever Quilters 2019 Raffle Quilt

This year, the Cabin Fever Quilters decided to go modern with their raffle quilt. They made a Tula Pink Butterfly.  Isn't it lovely?? (Ignore the circles you see on the background fabric. They're showing through from the backing.) The background is actually a solid, very light gray.

I can honestly say that this quilt was fun to quilt from beginning to end. Usually, as a I start a new quilt, be it my own or a customer's, I'm excited. Its new and fun. By the middle of the quilt, I'm getting a bit bored. However, towards the end, I'm excited again because I'll get to see what it looks like finished. With this one, I never got bored. I think it was because there are so many different blocks and so many different ways to quilt them. My brain was a bit taxed!!

Some pics:  First a shot of the antennae. Don't all butterflies have feathered antennae??? And the pebbles??  (Note to self--make pebbles bigger next time!)

Here's a few pics of the blocks. Since the wings are identical, I quilted the same pattern in the corresponding blocks.

And before you go away, a couple shots of the back.  See the circles???  They don't show through unless you hang the quilt in your living room to take pics. [stupid!!]

Thanks for looking. If you are interested in tickets, let me know. They're $1 each.

2017 Cabin Fever Raffle Quilt

The Raffle Quilt Committee named this quilt "Coming Home." The name is based on the "porthole" that depicts what you see crossing the Hood Canal Bridge heading toward the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, and home.

The porthole is the most stunning feature of this Storm at Sea quilt. Below are a couple of close-ups of that quilting.

I have to "toot my own horn" here; this is the first time I've quilted clouds that I liked. They couldn't be whimsical and I had a heck of a time deciding how to do it. After searching YouTube and Pinterest, these are what I came up with. I love the texture they added.

And a shot of the back:

When you stand back and look at the quilt, the redish blocks really stand out. I quilted them all with their own design. Here's a shot of the front and back.

Finally, the border blocks that matched the above blocks also got special treatment.

I hope my quilting helps to sell a lot of tickets for the Cabin Fever Quilt Club!

The Mystery is Solved!

As some of you may remember, I've been working on the Cabin Fever Quilters Mystery Quilt for 2014. The Mystery has been solved!

Now the dilemma is which border? First choice (2 options here -- busy fabric or black?):

Second choice (smaller black inner and bigger busy outer):

Third choice (Just black, but perhaps smaller?):

Or....a piping of one or the other with the opposite for the border???

I'm stumped.

HELP!!!!!

Cabin Fever Quilters Raffle Quilt 2015

If you've been reading my blog, you know that I was given the honor of quilting the raffle quilt for the Cabin Fever Quilters last year. It was an absolutely gorgeous quilt with stunning blocks on black.  Click HERE to be reminded of that quilt.

When the committee for this year's raffle quilt chose the pattern for their quilt, I was excited to participate and made a block. The top got put together and shown at a guild meeting...and taken home; and I was so disappointed--until I got home and read the e-mail asking me whether I was interested in quilting it.  "Interested in quilting it"??  Really???  I was THRILLED to be asked to quilt it!!!

I just love this quilt. I love all sorts of quilts, but more traditional ones like this just make me smile! (Its really fun for me to look at a picture of the whole quilt after its done. Although the blocks were identical, I can really how pretty it is)

These are the two blocks. Exactly the same, but with different fabric placement. Amazing how much a different placement can make such a huge change.

I tried to keep the quilting fairly simple; I didn't think the quilt called for a lot of fancy stuff. Here's a closer look at a larger section:

When it was given to me to quilt, I was told that they intentionally didn't run the applique around the border as they wanted to leave the corners open for me to quilt. I did them last, as I just couldn't decide what to do. Generally, I do three repeating designs in a quilt for continuity. Finally I decided to quilt a feather in the corner. There are no feathers anywhere else on the quilt, but it just seemed to fit. What do you think?

And I couldn't sign off without a couple shots of the back!

I hope this quilt raises lots of money for the guild!!

Betty's Stars and Pinwheels

I'm always amazed and humbled when people whom I haven't spoken to personally walk up to me and say, "I want you to quilt my quilt." Its such an honor to be trusted with their masterpiece. New customers are a blessing and a curse--its the first quilt: what if <gasp> they don't like what I do???  Luckily (knocking on wood) this hasn't happened to me and I hope it never does!

Betty walked up to me at the Cabin Fever Quilters meeting and said just that: "I want you to quilt my quilt." She didn't mind that my schedule is such that there would be a couple of months before she saw it again. So I took it home and drooled over it. For some reason, I just love this quilt--I'm thinking its because stars and pinwheels are my favorite blocks and red is one of my favorite colors--might have had something to do with it!

There were so many options for this quilt. I always give my customers three to choose from with different price points so that they feel their money is well spent. I could see feathers all over this quilt, but Betty wanted me to keep it simple. A closer look (below) and you can see the continuous curve in the stars and pinwheels. A simple smallish meander in the background rounded out the simple quilting.

Me, being me, I couldn't leave well enough alone.  I had to sneak some feathers in so I feathered the border (rather pointless, since it only shows if your face is right next to the quilt) and did a little feather/loopy thing (ala Deloa Jones, I think) on the inner border.  That one did show and it framed the quilt nicely, I think.

What would you have done had this been your quilt. Feathers or something simple, as Betty chose?

Thanks for dropping by!

Washington is Quilter's Heaven

Or it sure seems that way. There are lots of guilds, many quilt shows and classes to attend, not to mention all the retreats! My quilty side loves it here!!

I've joined two guilds here, Sun Bonnet Sues in Sequim and Cabin Fever Quilters in Port Townsend (about 40 minutes away). The SBS guild is HUGE--over 250 members; the CFQs are growing, we're up to 100 members now and may have to start looking for a larger meeting room!

A few months ago, CFQ asked if I would quilt their Opportunity Quilt. I was honored as I hadn't expected that at all.  In a group of that many women, its easy to get lost. This is the beautiful quilt that the members put together:

It is so much prettier in person! I have really got to do something about my photography situation.

A close up of the center. I opted not to quilt in the applique on this one and just pebble around the design. It made the applique really pop. I also kept all the quilting very simple and basic, in an attempt to highlight the quilt, itself. (Remember, if you click on the picture, you get to see it "close-up")

I tried a couple of new things with this quilt. The curved crosshatch in the center of the star was a first for me. I have all the rulers, but haven't had a place where I thought it would work. I like it here, what do you think??

A close-up of the center. The colors chosen in making this quilt work so well together. I just love it! The colors in this picture are more true to the actual colors of the quilt. Its a beautiful combination and the bit of white just makes everything pop.

And, finally, a pic of the border treatment. I debated about this border for so long and finally came up with a (sort of) mirrored image effect.

No pics of the back on this one as it was too busy for the quilting to show. I was hoping for a solid black backing--it would have been a fun one to see on the reverse.

Thanks for stopping by!
