Breanna is Having a Baby!

My great niece, Breanna, is having a baby! Her mom, my sister and sister-in-law all got together and made her this adorable quilt! I had the honor of quilting it.

Below are some close-ups of the critters.  Aren't they adorable?? After a million thread changes for color matching and some linework in the background, they turned out pretty cute!

The backing allowed the quilting to show up nicely. It gives you a better idea of the quilting that went into each block.

Breanna's shower was this past Saturday. Her mom took a video of her opening the quilt--I can't wait to see it. Apparently, the quilt was a hit!!  Now we just have to wait for the baby to be born to enjoy it.

Another Underground Railroad Quilt

Leslie made this UGRR with traditional fabrics? Do you remember her modern one? Click HERE and you can compare and contrast. Which do you like better?

Below are a few pics of the blocks from the top...I've done so many of these its always a brain stretch to come up with new ideas. Leslie wanted traditional with lots of feathers, so I did my best.

And here are a ton of pics of the back--where the quilting showed the best. As usual, the depicted color of the fabric has nothing to do with the real color. Not sure what's up with that, but the quilting shows and that's the important part!

Okay, I'll stop now...but I really do love quilting these traditional blocks!

Girlfriend Quilts

Aren't these adorable??  And the story behind them will make your heart happy.

Camille used to live in Alaska and she answered her doorbell one day to find a young man, approximately six I believe, at her door. His rain boots were on the wrong feet (notice the quilt block in the middle of each quilt). He wanted to be friends and so they became best "girlfriends."

Fast forward to present day and Camille calling to ask if I could quilt these for her. Turns out that this young man had developed a brain tumor and was dying. She wanted to take these quilts up for a last visit in Alaska while he would still remember her. She made it there in time and he did remember her.

Here are a couple of close-ups of the two quilts (one for her and one for him).

I just thought it was so cute to have this center block with the boots on backwards. Such a happy memory for them both.

Thanks for looking,

Margaret's Strip Quilt

Margaret gave me this lovely strip quilt to work on. Generally these quilts don't have such lovely big borders, but hers did and she let me play!

I had just seen a new border design in one of my many books, so I got to try it out. Its very geometric and a nice contrast to the curved allover in the body. Here's a quick shot.

And the body has my usual heatwave allover. It certainly seems to be my "go to" design!

Thanks for looking!

Geesh--Sometimes I HATE Change!!

Its been a few months since my last post--actually, longer than that because I tend to schedule posts way in advance. I'm not very good at sitting down to do this when I should (gee, bet you're surprised!)

We are in Cannon Beach, Oregon, at Ecola Lodge for our 16th wedding anniversary.  Isn't it beautiful--or it would be, if the sun were actually shining!

King Suite with Kitchen & Fireplace

The plan was to do lots of hiking and checking things out; however, the weather is not cooperating. It rained and gusts of wind shook our cabin windows all night long. And its still going on outside. So perfect day to sit at my computer and update my blog while Dennis works on his stuff--we're waiting for the weather to improve. And then Google changed everything--took me hours to get into my blog again--thus the blog title!

More posts coming...as in almost immediately.
